This Sunday we shall be treated to the convergence of two marvelous franchises. Family Guy is having the entire main cast of TNG (or for you laymen – Star Trek: The Next Generation) on for a hilarious bout of hilarity in an episode titled “Not All Dogs Go To Heaven.” This one will go down as Chris Piers’ favorite for sure.
Wil Wheaton, aka Wesley Crusher, has a little blog entry about his recording with Seth MacFarlane. You can read it here.
If you’d like to see a little teaser about the episode, it can be viewed here at Fox on Demand.
I for one will be front and center. Warp 10! Engage! Make it so! FARTS!

I watched it and it felt like they dropped the ball. They had all the original actors and they acted silly/baby-ish and that’s fine, that’s funny. But they had hardly any Star Trek parody stuff. Seems like an opportunity, maybe? Still, not necessarily a flaw. But what was up with that ending? Adam West and Rob Lowe sharing a bedroom. But there was like, no joke. I didn’t get it at all.
For what it’s worth, I respect Seth McFarlane for being an artist, a successful multiple showrunner, a voiceover guy, and he’s funny in interviews. But the humor on Family Guy just falls flat for me.

I think the problem is that you’re looking for a set up and execution for EVERY single joke, when it’s not really about that. It’s about the experience. That’s the joke. That’s the enjoyment. What is happening onscreen at that very moment. The references, the context, the randomness.
I will agree they could have done more with the Star Trek stuff.
“Here’s your milk.” Peed my pants.
