		<description>I don&#039;t tihnk the Doctor was trying to manipulate Rattigan; as Martha said, he could have teleported the converter up to the ship by itself.  Besides, he didn&#039;t need to manipulate Rattigan anyway, Rattigan probably would have gone voluntarily in the first place if the Doctor had just asked him, considering the state he was in at the time.

I think he really did intend to give them the choice - he&#039;s done that time and again in the new series (almost always knowing the choice will be refused - the Rachnoss, the Family of Blood, the Krillitanes, etc.).</description>
